We started running social rides from the shop in the summer, designed for those new to cycling, or those who lack confidence cycling on the roads or going out on their own. Generally small groups of 4-6 going out on a 15 mile or so gentle route which have proved to be popular and fun.

In developing these rides and activities, we have formed Shipston Spokes Cycling Club based at the shop. We have the same social purpose focus, broadening activities to help members who:

​​​

• Are not comfortable riding alone

• Fear riding on the main roads 

• Worry about having a breakdown whilst out riding

• Don't know the area / other rides or good cycle routes

• Are aspiring to a cycling event and need support going from zero to a 100 mile ride!

As well as social rides, we will have organised training rides, off-road rides (for those with gravel or mountain bikes) and a variety of workshops on maintenance, training coaching and more.  We have some lovely volunteer helpers who are giving time to lead rides, or run workshops. 

​

The Shipston Spokes Cycling Club event calendar is below and will be updated as events and dates firm up into next year. The rough schedule shown in the calendar is:

​

• Saturday social ride - First Saturday of the month

• Midweek evening social ride - middle Wednesday of the month, May to August

• Training rides - last Sunday of the month starting February

• Off road rides - TBC - watch out for newsletter / calendar updates

• Workshops - at least one a month as per the calendar (more to be added as we rope more volunteer experts in!)

Membership Fees

​

Membership runs from January to December and is £25 for the year. Fees are to cover the costs of running the club / events, with all surplus funds at the end of the year going to our designated local charity. Those joining the club for the rest of 2024 will enjoy membership for 2025 so the earlier you join the more value you'll get!
